Family Violence Prevention Week
May 12 to 18, 2025
The Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention (PAC) encourages Island municipalities and community organizations to play an active role in 2025 Family Violence Prevention Week, 12-18 May 2025.
Family Violence Prevention Week highlights PAC’s vision of a society where everyone is safe, respected and valued and where people have opportunities to reach their full potential while contributing to the overall well-being of families and communities. The theme for Family Violence Prevention Week 2025 is "Preventing Family Violence in Older Adults."
Wednesday, May 14th is Wear Purple Day
Islanders are encouraged to wear purple to raise awareness of the campaign, to remember victims of violence and their families and to demonstrate that violence in any relationship is not acceptable.
Everyone is welcome to join in the Charlottetown Walk in Silence on May 14 at 12:30 pm (Please note the change of time) organized by the Premier's Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention. Beginning and ending at Rochford Square with light refreshments provided by the City of Charlottetown, there will be Seeds of Hope packets, messages of support, and time to connect with others in the community.

- Hosted by the Chief Mary Bernard Memorial Women's Shelter. All welcome!
Wednesday, May 14
- Charlottetown, Rochford Square at 12:30 pm
- Hosted by Premier's Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention followed by music and light refreshments, provided by the City of Charlottetown. All welcome!
- Mill River at West Prince Curling Club at 6:00 pm
- Refreshments served at 5:30
- Hosted in partnership between PEI Family Violence Prevention Services, and Western Region Sports and Rec Council/ GoWest PEI. All welcome!
- Montague, Families First at 11:30 am
- Hosted in partnership with Family Violence Prevention Services Eastern Outreach and Montague High School SAVE group. Refreshments to follow, all welcome!
Thursday, May 16
- Summerside Gazebo at 263 Heather Moyse Drive at 12 Noon
- Hosted by East Prince Family Violence Prevention Services with refreshments to follow. All welcome!

Monday, May 12
- Coffee break at 10 -10:30 am the Provincial Buildings to launch Family Violence Prevention Week.
- Alberton, Heritage Centre at 1:30 pm
- Hosted by the Town of Alberton, Bridging the Generations - ageism and its connection to abuse. Facilitated by FVPS Outreach and Hospital Staff. Refreshments served, open to the public.
Tuesday, May 13
- Grand River Ranch at 10:30-12
- Honouring our Elders, hosted by Lets Talk Horses, equine assisted learning.
- O'Leary Town Hall, 1:30 pm
- Town of O'Leary is hosting Bridging the Generations, how ageism is connected to abuse, co-facilitated by FVPS Outreach and Seniors Navigator. Refreshments served, open to the public.
Wednesday, May 14
- Tyne Valley Seniors Home Community Room at 1:00 pm
- A public event on called Bridging the Generations, how ageism is connected to abuse of older adults. Co-facilitated by FVPS Outreach and Health PEI. Refreshments served, open to the public.
- Milton Hall, at 1 pm
- Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park are hosting those interested in making fleece knotted blankets for Anderson House. All welcome.
Thursday, May 15
- Tignish Coop at 11 am
- Member Relations Committee of Tignish is offering free cupcakes at the Coop at 11 am with information and purple ribbons available to the public.
- Tignish, Bridging the Generations at 1:30
- Hosted by the town at Tignish Parish Hall. Co-facilitated by FVPS Outreach and Social Development and Seniors on connections of ageism and abuse of older adults. Refreshments served, open to the public.
- Stars for Life Lunch at Learn at their day program 12 Noon- 2 pm, private event.
- Crapaud Community Hall - 6:30 pm
- Participate in a community forum to address gender-based violence. Hosted by PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women, Rural Municipality of Crapaud. Refreshments served, open to the public.
Friday, May 16
- PEI Network to Confront Ageism is hosting a community forum
- 10 am at the Charlottetown Library and Learning Centre
- There will be a presentation with a focus on the formation of a provincial network designed to combat ageism and address the issue of mistreatment of older people. The public is welcome to attend.
- Family Violence Prevention Services Eastern Outreach
- 12 noon at Souris Legion
- There will be a presentation on preventing family violence in older adults with refreshments and hand outs. The public is welcome to attend.
Week Long Events
- West River United Church
- Art installation at the church on May 10,11, and at the Town Hall for two weeks. Information on family violence will be distributed to Meals on Wheels recipients.
- West Prince Family Violence Prevention Services Outreach
- Kindness Challenge packages to Westisle Family of Schools
- East Prince Family Violence Prevention Services Outreach
- Kindness Challenge packages to the Three Oakes Family of Schools.
- SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) at Montague High School
- Door decorating and home room donation challenge. The School community will be inviting people from seniors organizations in the community to have a social event.
- Public Library System
- Donation of several books on healthy aging from Premier's Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention.
